Day 73: With Thanksgiving

Pray with thanksgiving
Even in painful times we must pray with thanksgiving

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Day 73: With Thanksgiving

My head is filled with so much. A musical hero of my dear friend, Kishore Carey who passed away a year ago unexpectedly wrote a song that (If you are on facebook check it out here https://www.facebook.com/iamTPR/videos/2719040008205713/) represents some of what is in the collective consciousness of those who are sensitive. The words are as follows:

$20 Bill (for George Floyd)

Some people die for honor
Some people die for love
Some people die while singing
To the heavens above
Some people die believing
In the cross on Calvary hill
And some people die
In the blink of an eye
For a $20 bill

Some people go out in glory
(Yeah) with the wind at their back
Some get to tell their own story
Write their own epitaph
Sometimes you see it coming
Sometimes you don’t know until
You run out of breath
With a knee on your neck
For a $20 bill

O Brother, I never knew you
And now I never will
But I make this promise to you
I’ll remember you still

Take, eat – let this be our communion
It’s time to break the bread
Do this in remembrance
Just like the good book said
Sometimes the wine is a sacrament
Sometimes the blood is just spilled
Sometimes the law
Is the devils’ last straw
The future unfulfilled
Like the dream they killed
For a $20 bill

Today I didn’t go out in the streets to protest. Early this morning I shared a song and prayer on social media, but my heart lead me to read the Word. I came across the scripture above from Philippians 4:6-7. The text says to be careful for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving make your requests known to God. And the next verse says you will receive the peace of God.

I just read a post from a friend who lives in Minneapolis. Hate groups are using this opportunity to stir things up with protesters. Father, I pray that you will keep my friend safe.

I went walking today and on my walk I met a lovely lady who I only met once before of Italian descent. She with tears in her eyes apologized to me on behalf of white people for what I go through. Father, please protect her and those like her who are sensitive to the evil facing many of us who have darker skin. And Father, please open the eyes of those who don’t get it yet.

I just wrote a note to my next door neighbor who is a white man close to 70. He has been a wonderful neighbor. He has invited me to study the bible with him and on one occasion we read through the book of Revelation from beginning to end at his request. I wrote him a note to say thank you for being such a great neighbor. Father, please sustain him and reward him for being like You.

I pray today with thanksgiving. There are horrible things all around, but there is still good. There are still good neighbors. There are those who love regardless of class or color. And God is still on His throne.

When your heart is heavy, do like the good book says. Pray, but do it with thanksgiving. And God’s peace will greet you there!
