Day 66: Remembering

32 “You shall stand up before the gray head and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.

Leviticus 19:32

On today as people across the world reflect on the birth of Jesus I remember those who sought to teach me about Him by their example.  Having a stepfather at an older stage of life is a bit different than growing up with one.  But I fondly recall how my stepfather would constantly remind me to stop stressing and remember that God has everything under control.  He would tell me stories about how things worked out in answer to prayer.

My daughter and I in this picture just finished playing with grandpa.  He may not have had much energy but he was able to tickle even in his final weeks-he loved bringing joy to others.  We will miss him.

So today, I remember what he tried to teach me most, to trust in God.

Merry Christmas!  Although scholars have taught us that Jesus wasn’t born at this time of the year I still want to take a moment to acknowledge that I trust in the God who sent His only Son to die for my sins.

Day 58: Trustworthy People

9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices

Colossians 3:9 NIV

Have you ever had a problem and you wanted to get advice from someone you knew you could trust?  A few days ago my van broke down.  It wouldn’t start.  I prayed and asked others to pray.  I called for help.  Tried but it still wouldn’t start.  When I was about to give up I tried one last time and it started.  PRAISE GOD!!!  But I knew I needed to have someone figure out what was going on.

Often our health is tied to our mental peace of mind.  When we feel anxious our immune system is weakened and we get sick more easily.  The bible encourages us to be honest one with another.  This way we can have a community where our anxiety is lessened because we can trust each other.

It came to me that I should take my van to my trusted mechanic, Hai.  I hadn’t seen him for a few years but when I went he gave me excellent wisdom and fixed things and had me on my way quickly.

Today, I recommit myself to being someone others can rely on.  Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Day 31: Trust The Healer

Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.

Jeremiah 17:14

If you knew that everything in your life was going to turn out for your good how would that change the way you reacted to life’s unexpected events?

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for our good because we love God and are called according to His purpose.  Therefore stress should not be a problem.  But why is it a problem?  Maybe we don’t believe that this is true.  Perhaps we should repeat what we know to be true to help us believe it.

When you hear branding on TV you start to believe it’s true.  If you hear that a certain kind of car is the best value for your money even if it isn’t true you start to believe it.  With all the misinformation surrounding us it is important for us to reinforce the truth.  Read scripture daily.  Repeat the gems that remind you of God’s promises and His goodness.  Then your faith will spring forth because you believe the word of God.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Hebrews 11:6

Today I will feed my faith with the Word of God.  And I will trust Him to take care of all my needs, including my healing.

Trust the Healer!
